Full Episode: Live Your Soul Lit Life
Are you living your soul lit life? This week i'm taking you through my journey to living to the rhythm of my soul and giving you some pointers on how you can too! This is something that I've been passionate about since high school, where I had this yearning to do what I love and love what I do. Which is actually the slogan of the life is good brand. That's where I got it from. So kudos to them for inspiring that fire within me. I truly believe that we can all do what we love and love what we do, except our society has boxed us into this idea that we need to do certain things, and we need to fall into this category, lawyer, doctor, business owner, brick and mortar, like there's so many shifts. So that's what we're going to talk about in today's episode, because now with the internet, we have an infinite number of opportunities to really embrace any and all of our inner desires. We all have unique skills and beautiful qualities within us that are unlike any other person. So everything that you have within you, whether you believe it right now or not, is super magical. And if you are not feeling that magic within you is because you're ignoring it. And we need to stop ignoring those inner whispers and that inner magic. We are beautiful human beings that are ready to bloom, but we just need to honor those things.
What's really crazy is that sometimes these things are disguised and there's sometimes hard to pinpoint. Just to give you a quick little background on this, I love people. I love hanging out with people. I was a social butterfly in school, in high school. And in college, I was all about the parties and talking to people and making friends. And back then, I did not know that skill was actually a very important skill to have because obviously partying a lot is sometimes frowned upon, especially by parents, although my parents were incredible and they are actually big partiers themselves. As an adult, what am I going to do partying? Right. Like partying is not going to get me anywhere. Those are the things that we don't normally hear. Like having fun will not get us anywhere. Well, is that really true? I don't think it's true at all. I think having fun will get us to many more places and they'll be a lot more expansive. That's what we need to follow. So, let me tell you a quick story here. So when I was, like I said, in college, and even in high school, I loved hanging out with people. I love socializing, but you know, you have to have a job. So I ended up getting a job at Yahoo, which is super glamorous. A lot of people are like, Oh my God, coolest job ever. And I really loved working there because of the people I love working there to connect with adults that were slightly older than me. They were super hip that actually loved their job. That was really like the first taste of like, Oh, these people really love what they do. They're all in. which was really cool to be exposed to. And then, after I graduated college, I ended up getting an internship at my summer camp. If you don't know I'm Venezuelan. And my first language is Spanish. So the way I learned English was first in school. But then to like really get it out of me. My parents sent me to summer camp where nobody spoke Spanish and I really got to get into the language and have to defend myself. And that's, well, that's how I'm talking to you now. But that camp was a huge part of my upbringing and I always wanted to go back. And so after college, I was like, you know what? I saw my counselors having so much fun. I'm going to go there and work full time there before I start my real job. So I decided to take my gap year at summer camp, doing really cool work. So while i was there, I was trained to become a youth development, professional and facilitator. So we facilitated schools that would come during the year to do leadership programs, team building programs and all these really cool experiences that then all of a sudden, I had all these life tools that were super cool. And I was experiencing all these incredible transformations from all these kids. We had kids from the third grade, all the way up to high school and then some adults. I will also say that when I was in school myself, like middle school and early high school, I was not a good student. And it was because I had a really hard time focusing because, you know, I was confined to this desk and this book, and it was just very confining. Right. And a lot of these kids that I had in these programs were like that. And I remember reading notes from the teachers of like, this kid does not focus. He's the class clown, blah, blah, blah. And then they would come to camp and they would completely bloom.
They would be like the all-star kid because they were in an element that completely changed. They had more freedom of expression and we had all these really cool, intentional activities that would allow them to express themselves in a really cool way. So I was doing this and I, all of a sudden I knew that providing transformative experiences was part of what I wanted to do. There was something about where I was in that time that didn't fully click, but I know as part of my journey, because it felt really good. It felt expansive and easy. After that I got a full-time job at the camp, which I also absolutely loved. And that actually gave me a taste of what it felt like to fully love and embrace your work, to do what I love and love what I do. The problem was that I had expensive habits and hobbies, and I wanted to travel. And I knew that staying there at that time would not support that. And that's okay. You know, it's a nonprofit organization. And what I told myself is I am going to leave for some time. I need to experience other things in life. I need to find other things that make me feel this way. And then eventually I'll come back in one way or another. And I still go back every summer. And my goal is to eventually be part of the board or something like that. But yeah, that, that place is magical. So I left camp and started working in my family business. And all of a sudden I had a lot of financial stability. I had time freedom because I had a lot of time flexibility and I was exposed to all these really cool aspects of the business. So I really learned what it meant to build your own business, to leverage, to scale, to shrink when things are not going well, like to basically ebb and flow with that whole piece, which was not intentional again. I don't know if I've said this already, but you can never connect the dots looking forward, but you can always connect the dots, looking back. And now that I have built my own business, I know that those experiences were so fruitful. So the one thing that was missing from working in my family business is that I really was yearning for that, human connection and that like those experiences of helping people feel empowered and transform and find those blind spots in order to fully express themselves and expand, I didn't have that piece. And that's what I kept searching and searching. This is not a conscious thing. I'm just, now telling you this story in hindsight, because when it was happening, I just knew that I didn't love my job. And I knew that I wanted more. And I also did not recognize that being a facilitator and a youth leader and a person that helps people feel empowered was my calling. I just knew that I had liked those experiences and that I didn't like where I was right then and there. So I somehow I ended up deciding to become a yoga teacher. And, Oh my gosh, that like totally flipped my world upside right. I learned so much about spirituality and feeling in alignment physically and spiritually. And I loved all these new modalities that I could apply for myself and then help people around me.
Now, at this point, I had become a personal development junkie. And as I've said before, I love giving unsolicited advice and I've become better at respecting people's boundaries. I actually don't really give unsolicited advice anymore because that's ego-driven, I now recognize, but when I was learning all these things through yoga and all the books that I was reading while I was in this job that I didn't fully love, you know, I was finding all these different avenues to express myself and to find that alignment that I was yearning for that I had before. Then I
wanted to share these things with everyone. And so naturally I would just share it with my loved ones and bless their souls so that they could deal with me because who likes unsolicited advice Like, thank you. And I love you. And I'm good, right? Because there's a time and place for everything, all of this, to say that, then I was learning all these things. And I was like, so hungry to help people that I was helping people that did not want help. Right. But I didn't understand it back then. And so all of this, you know, connects back, starting with wanting to be in the parties and connecting with people and learning about people, then becoming a facilitator and loving that experience, and then starting to do other things that felt like I was going the wrong way, but that actually led me to these new places.
To be through becoming a yoga teacher and learning about all these different leaders that were in the industry that I didn't really know existed. I remember following Lewis house, his podcast, the school of greatness for honestly, since he started. and I was fascinated by the interviews that he was doing, but I didn't really know. I remember actually, this is funny. I remember he had this free webinar training in order to create webinars. And I signed up for it because it seemed like something that would help me at the time, but I didn't know what I was getting into. And then I was like, wait, you're teaching me how to make PowerPoint presentations. Like I was so confused because I was not aware of the coaching world. And if you're listening to this and you're like, well, I still don't know what you're talking about, Carla, Oh my gosh, guys, this is like a super incredible world, full of people that are really, really passionate about helping people transform. That's the simplest way that I can, that I can explain it. But anyways, let me rewind and say after more and more of that exploring, I actually ended up having some thyroid problems that led me into finding doTERRA essential oils, which really helped my health. And then through that, I decided to sell the product, which if, you know, maybe you don't, it's a multi-level marketing company. Some people call it a pyramid scheme. It's not a scheme, but it's
a business structure that is based on you selling product to your friends and family, to your community and building a following in that way. There's many ways to approach that. We're not going to talk about that, but through selling that, then I came back to the piece of me that loves to teach and that loves to empower other people. And I loved it. The problem was that I did not know how to approach the business because it was a very unique model. And even though I love the product and I love the teaching aspect of it, I started, I was on a hamster wheel doing a lot and not getting much back, quantity rather than quality. Right. But I was in this moment in time where I was kind of stuck. And so I ended up discovering this whole world of coaching and online service providing, and I started to explore it. And luckily I had a friend that was already deep into it, and I had seen her whole transformation, her whole journey to where she was at then. And I got super curious. And so then I was like, well, I love teaching. I love
people. And I don't necessarily love this business structure. It's not working for me right now. I do love it empowering people. How can I do more of that? And then I ended up going into holistic business coaching, where it all came together and I'm honestly simplifying it. I skipped a few steps. Like there were a lot of other things that I tried before I became a holistic business coach, but just to simplify it, because it's really the point of the story is that you should never give up in searching for that one thing that you absolutely love. Because now that I get an opportunity to speak to you here, to empower you through my tools, through my stories and to empower my clients and in may, I'm going to be launching an incredible group program called your soul Lit life by design. So it's really tools and things and ways to build that life by your design, because we truly can, like, there's nothing stopping you except yourself.
And if you think other people are stopping you, then you are living at the effect of them because nobody controls you. We have to bring our power back. And if you are feeling powerless, then I encourage you to ask yourself, how can I bring my power back and to give you a really great example from this story that I just told, I have had moments in my family business and I've been working there for almost 11 years where I have felt super stuck and I come home and I'm miserable. and I do have to say that I'm so blessed for the experience I've had there because it's allowed me to grow and expand. And it's challenged me a million times over. It's been an incredible experience in so many ways, starting by the fact that like I've been able to connect with my father in ways that I always dreamed of, but then also, um, being challenged in really, really cool ways. And there were days that I was really miserable and I would come home and I would feel stuck at the effect of how my family expected me to stay there. And they're not, not forcing me to stay there. That's me being a people pleaser. That's me blaming other people for my own problems. I could have been like, dad, I love you. And I don't like doing this and I'm leaving. And yes, I would have disappointed some people, but it's the truth that I needed to own. And that's what I ended up doing. I'm like dad. I absolutely love you. I've loved every single part of working in union with you and connecting with you. And I know I have this calling and it's really owning that. Then you come out so much more empowered. Honestly, it's so hard for me to express this here because in my head I'm like, Oh my God, what if he listens to this? Well, what if he does? I'm saying all truthful things. And you know what? It's been super cool to see him doing what he absolutely loves. That's also been a part of this journey where I get to be exposed to these humans that are doing what feels really expansive and what they are so consumed by because they love it so much. And now I get to do that myself. And that's what I'm encouraging you to do.
If you are stuck in a job, or if you're stuck in any situation, or if you feel like you just don't know what you're good at, you just have to keep searching. You can never, never, never give up because look at this whole journey that I just shared with you. I thought that being social and wanting to be constantly engaging with people was a skill that was a wasted skill. When then it translated into becoming a facilitator and a leader. And then from there building my own business, being a coach and coaching people, becoming a yoga teacher, inspiring people in my classroom. And so then that's how it all transmuted. And to be honest, when I first started my business, this is also important to mention. I kind of dreaded a lot of parts of having a business because when you first start your business, you wear a lot of hats from being your money manager to obviously doing your books, to doing all the administrative stuff, setting up the backend of things, your website, that like all these things that are actually what slowed down my progress at the very beginning because that's not my genius. It's not what I love. That's actually what I was walking away from. I did not want to be doing all the busy work I wanted to be talking, experiencing with other people, helping people transform and empowering people. Now that's just me, right? Because there's other people like I want to give a big shout out to my virtual assistant who is incredible. Um, and she's actually taken on a lot of this work that I don't like doing. And she does it so beautifully. And perhaps for her doing that busy work is what fires her up. Like some people are more busy bees and some people are really good at doing all of that stuff that maybe you are not good at. And so that's where finding someone and finding a supportive team that can balance out what you're good at with what you don't love to do is going to help you expand tenfold. But that's more on the business end. And we'll talk about that in another episode, So let's go back to finding your inner magic and your genius. If you've been listening to all this and you're like, Carla, it's just really hard. I'm, you know, I'm in my routine, I'm stuck in this job. I don't know what to do. Well, girl, you better get back on that horse and feel the empowerment within you. Like maybe grab your solar plexus and really, really ground in on that. Like you have all the power. So I want you to take your power back and begin to get curious. You want to get curious about what sets your soul on fire. And this is what's really cool. Like this activity is incredible because it's fun. Like it's not something that I'm like, Hey, like go, bungee jumping and see if you'd like that. Or go stand in front of a thousand people and see if you like that. No, it's starting to do things that you absolutely are excited to do, and it can start as a hobby. Right. And then beginning to ask yourself, what about this? Do I like, you know, like for me with the partying, like, what is it that I loved about partying? It's that I love connecting with people, all that I loved learning about other people's backstories. And they're like, where they came from and what they want to do with their dreams or hopes. and so then from that, you can begin to ask yourself, okay, well, how can I apply this to something else? And this'll be a journey, right? It's not like you're going to snap your fingers. Maybe you will because maybe you're almost there, but the point is to never give up, you can never give up on finding that thing that sets your soul on fire. And then always get curious because it's only through curiosity that we discover. had her first kid that there's a certain age, I think like six months that we start getting curious about our hands and our feet. Like, we don't know that we have hands and feet because when we are born, we have to be curious about everything because everything is new to us. But then when we grow into adults, all of a sudden, like the shoulds and society's norms, Dole, our curiosity. So I say, screw that, throw it out the window. And let's get curious again, because it's through curiosity that we discover
You want to get curious about what sets your soul on fire and always get out there and try as many new things as possible if you're stuck at home. And you're like, Oh, but I don't know anybody, but this and that girl, there are so many avenues to start meeting people from Facebook groups to Instagram, to clubhouse. If you haven't tried clubhouse, it's really cool. It's a cool app. I believe now it's open to the public. Look it up online, And, you can go to a networking event nowadays. We have online networking events, if you're afraid, because of COVID like, there are so many avenues, if it's this new skill that you're wanting to do, girl, go for it, put it on the calendar and go try it out. And then I would say, don't give up super quickly, right?
Like, don't try it like for 10 minutes or just one time. And you're like, Ugh, this is terrible. Like if I told you the first time I went to yoga class was in college and I walked away from there and I was like, yoga is not for me. Well, if you know me,you know that I do yoga every day. And I'm absolutely obsessed with the benefits that it gives me physically and spiritually. So don't give up on the first try that comes along. That's like the same for meeting new people. And for new experiences, you have to give things a chance and then get curious about what you like, and then once you decide what the things that you like come really easily to you that come like flow into you? Then you want to ask yourself, what about this is so important to me, right? Like what is it that I love? Why do I love this so much? And why is that so important for me? Like, for me, for example, now I have built my business. I have a lot more to grow, which is really exciting. and the why behind my business is that I want to become a mom and I want to be a stay at home mom while still having a purpose outside of my home. And I also want my kids to grow in a really good world. And I understand that I cannot affect the entire world. Like I can't change everyone, but I can change the people around me and I can inspire and empower people around me. And through this, through this podcast and through my Instagram community and through inspiring people, then I get to increase the frequency of each of you, as you are becoming your selves. And then through all of us increasing our own frequency and becoming more expansive, we collectively increase the frequency of our world and it naturally ripples out. So that is the why behind mine, I notice how it's not very related to socializing, right. It's very far out there now. It took me a long time to come to that. But I will tell you for sure that I kept asking myself a lot of questions.
If you're having a hard time finding the deep why behind why you love something, I have a trick for you, girl. So it's called seven layers deep. I think I might've butchered the title, but if you're going to say why do I love it, I'll give you me as an example. Why do I love coaching people? Because I love helping people. And why do I love helping people? Because when I help people, I allow them to be more expansive. And why is allowing them to be more expansive important to me? Because if they feel more expansive, then they can become better humans and better people in our world. And why is them becoming better people in our world important to me because I and I kind of choke up on this one, because I eventually want to become a mom and I want my kids to grow up in a really good world. And I feel like through them being expansive, then they are going to increase the betterment of our world. Now I didn't do seven levels deep in there, but the important message is what you got to do. The trick here is you keep asking yourself, why is that important to you? Why is that important to you? Why, why, why, why, why? Cause girl, we got to get curious. Like we so often are on this autopilot and we forget to ask why, and we forget to get curious on what's going on in and around us. And when we're doing, when we're asking these questions, we're becoming a little more introspective, which allows us to then become more aware, which, you know, I'm a huge preacher of like, we have to be aware of our inner dialogue of our inner desires.
Then we can start listening to those deep answers because it's through deepening the questions, not the logical answer, right? That then when we have those debates answers, that's when the real answers come out because the logical answer is going to be whatever society's told you. And the cool thing about this seven levels deep, and I can't take credit for this. I don't know who created it, but the cool thing about this is that you go from the logical answer to the more subconscious answer. And the one I just gave you, I've done. I did a long time ago and I just remembered. So it could take a little longer time, but the whole thing is you want to go from the logical to the unconscious answers because in your own conscious and your subconscious, which are the same thing, that's where you have all your beliefs stored and all your desires and
all of those deep, deep, deep wants and yearnings that you have. And in order to tap into that, we have to unhook that logical mind. So asking yourself questions and whether another really good way I was going to say is writing things out. So doing freestyle journaling is going to be really helpful for this and what a stream of consciousness writing. That's what it's called is you want to, so let's say you just came back from doing something and you're debriefing your experience, how we used to call it a camp. Right. so you want to debrief your experience and ask like, okay, what went well? What did I like? Why did I not like? Then as we are doing that, then you can literally put pen to paper and start writing, writing, writing, and just write everything that comes to you, you're doing a stream of consciousness, writing. You're not stopping at all, you're just continuing to write. And that's going to allow that subconscious mind to dump out what it really wants to say. And that's super cool. And actually, if you read the law of attraction, this is part of becoming more magnetic because it's when we get really clear on what we are wanting to allow to come into our lives and what we are not wanting to allow to come into our lives, that we become more magnetic through that clarity. And so the lesson here is in order to find that zone of genius, that inner magic, you have to start getting curious, and you have to be open to try new things, giving things and people a chance. And then getting curious on why those things are important to you, and then deciding what you want more of and what you want less of. And then the more you do of what you want, more of the more you're going to magnetize, what you truly want and what you truly are here to do.
